The Stranglers – British punk pioneers
One of the most innovative and enduring acts to emerge from the British punk scene, The Stranglers have been a mainstay of the live circuit since the 1970s. You can both buy and sell The Stranglers tickets on StubHub.
From No More Heroes to Big Thing Coming
The Stranglers’ original core line-up of frontman Hugh Cornwell, keyboardist Dave Greenfield, drummer Jet Black and bassist Jean-Jacques Burnel first came together in 1975. After establishing themselves on the British pub-rock scene and supporting the likes of The Ramones and Patti Smith, the group signed a deal with United Artists and released their debut album, "Rattus Norvegicus", in 1977. Striking while the iron was hot, The Stranglers followed it up that same year with "No More Heroes", a record which firmly cemented them as one of the burgeoning punk movement’s biggest acts. 1978’s "Black and White" and 1979’s "Raven" continued their run of success. But unlike many of their peers, The Stranglers managed to adapt to the times, embracing everything from new wave to post-punk in the 1980s on albums such as "The Gospel According to the Meninblack", "La Folie" and" Feline". Despite Cornwell’s departure in 1990, the group remained a hugely popular live draw throughout the decade and in 2003 scored an unexpected UK Top 40 hit with "Big Thing Coming".
