Production background and the Mischief Theatre Company
The comedy troupe, Mischief Theatre, first formed in 2008. The eclectic group was made up of both graduates and then students of The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. The group started with small venues, but had big ambitions from the off. Their first performance, a show entitled Let's See What Happens would showcase their signature style of unpredictable shenanigans on stage. Playing first to smaller audiences at The Questors Studio Theatre in Ealing, the play would then relocate to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival later that year. The group continued to deliver a range of improvisational and scripted shows. Their improvisational performances included Lights! Camera! Improvise! and Late Night Impro Fight, while their scripted work has included Mogic and The Buffoons.
In 2014, the group unveiled what would be their biggest work up until then, The Play That Goes Wrong. Cementing their reputation as pioneers of off the wall, unpredictable comic adventures, the show earned an Olivier Award for Best New Comedy in 2015, with the group invited to perform at The Royal Variety Show later that year.
Critical acclaim and accolades
As well as pocketing an Olivier Award for their work, the group also earned a gong at the WhatsOnStage Awards in 2014. They also walked away with The Spirit of the Fringe Award in 2013 for their work at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. They would later bring their antics to the world of panto for a festive offering, Peter Pan Goes Wrong in late 2013, itself earning two nominations at the Off West End Awards for Best Production and Best Ensemble.
