Snow Patrol background
Formed at the University of Dundee, the band members are Gary Lightbody (vocals, guitar), Nathan Connolly (guitar, backing vocals), Paul Wilson (bass, backing vocals), Jonny Quinn (drums) and Johnny McDaid (piano, guitar, backing vocals). Initially started as an indie-rock band, Snow Patrol released two albums (Songs for Polar Bears and When It's All Over We Still Have to Clear Up) before major success came in the form of their third album Final Straw. The power ballad "Run" was the album's lead single and four UK top 40 singles would follow. This success was replicated and even improved upon with the release of 2006's Eyes Open, which found success in the USA as well as Europe and Australia. A more romantic album, A Hundred Million Suns, followed, as well as tours with bands like U2 and Coldplay. By the end of the first decade of the 2000s, "Chasing Cars" was the most widely played song of the decade and was voted the nations favourite song of the decade by a Channel 4 poll.
