Irish artist Sinead O'Connor came into the eye of the American public after her arrangement of the Prince song "Nothing Compares 2 U" rose to mainstream musical success. O'Connor's first album, The Lion and The Cobra, was released in 1987. Although it received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance, O'Connor remained a "no-name" in America. "Nothing Compares 2 U" was written by Prince for his funk band, The Family, but the song failed to gain a following.
O'Connor rearranged the song for her vocals and to reflect upon the devastating loss of her mother. O'Connor became known for her beautiful voice, her outspokenness, and for her shaven hair - A rare sight in the 80s and 90s. O'Connor followed up with eight more albums, putting a total of ten studio albums under her belt. Her haunting voice makes seats at her performances sell out quickly, so get your Sinead O'Connor tickets fast!
