Golden Globe winner, hit-maker, supergroup founder
Born in the Texan city of Brownsville in 1936, Kris Kristofferson studied for degrees in Literature at both Claremont College and Oxford University before joining the military. Following his departure, he relocated to Nashville where he pursued a career as a singer-songwriter, penning hits for Roy Drusky, Dave Dudley and Roger Miller. Kristofferson first caught attention as a performer in his own right in 1970 when he appeared at the Newport Folk Festival and released his self-titled debut album. Two years later his third LP, "Jesus Was a Capricorn", topped the US Country charts, a feat repeated by his 1973 collaborative album with Rita Coolidge, "Full Moon". In 1976 he showcased his talents as a dramatic actor, winning a Golden Globe for his co-starring turn alongside Barbra Streisand in the remake of "A Star Is Born". He went on to appear in the likes of "Heaven’s Gate", "Lone Star" and the "Blade" franchise but remained just as prolific on the music front, most notably forming supergroup The Highwaymen with Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings in 1985.
