From Lo-Fi Masters to Laurel Canyon
Born in the Connecticut city of Bridgeport in 1977, John Mayer briefly studied at Boston’s Berklee College of Music before relocating to Atlanta where he formed a band with Clay Cook named Lo-Fi Masters. Mayer caught the industry’s attention as a solo performer at the 2001 SXSW Festival and later that year released his debut album, "Room for Squares" – an introspective, acoustic-driven affair that picked up a Grammy. 2003 sophomore "Heavier Things" further established Mayer as one of his generation’s most popular singer-songwriters when it peaked at Number One on the Billboard 200. Mayer then explored his passion for blues by collaborating with the likes of Eric Clapton and Buddy Guy, and formed his own trio for 2005 live album, "Try!" Following 2006’s "Continuum" and 2009’s "Battle Studies", Mayer took a break from the limelight before returning in 2012 with the Laurel Canyon-inspired "Born and Raised". His eclectic streak continued with 2014’s country-themed "Paradise Valley" and the 2015 formation of Dead and Company, a side project featuring three ex-members of jam band legends Grateful Dead. Mayer scored his seventh consecutive US Top 10 album in 2017 with "The Search for Everything". You can both buy and sell John Mayer tickets on StubHub now.
Gifted vocalist, virtuoso guitarist
Alongside his rich, plaintive vocal delivery, confessional songwriting approach and ability to flit between genres, John Mayer is also renowned for being a virtuoso guitarist. And it’s on the live stage where the star can truly showcase his talents on the six-string – and in particular his epic winding solos. Fans should also expect to hear many of the hits that cemented him as one of America’s most popular troubadours, including the US Top 20 hits "No Such Thing", "Who Says" and "Say", fan favourites "Why Georgia", "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room" and "Bigger Than My Body", and the Grammy-winning "Your Body is a Wonderland", "Waiting on the World to Change" and "Daughters". Mayer is also no stranger to paying tribute to the artists who have inspired his varied career during his setlist, with Robert Johnson, Ray Charles and The Jimi Hendrix Experience just some of the legendary acts he’s covered over the years.
