Boyzone members
In 1993, X Factor star Louis Walsh, placed ads in the Irish newspapers in hopes of forming a five member boyband. After several auditions with more than 300 vocalists, Walsh chose his boyband members. The beginning was trial and error for Boyzone band. After arguments, family conflicts and other trivial matters, some of the originally chosen members left and new members joined and the Boyzone members were made official: Keith Duffy, Stephen Gately, Mikey Graham, Ronan Keating, and Shane Lynch. A mixture of the groups charm, soothing vocals, and fantastic songwriting (which many band members participated in) set Boyzone in the right path for instant fame in the UK. All but one of their first 17 singles were Top 5 hits and six of them were Number 1 hits throughout their British countries. Unfortunately their success never seemed to surpass that of American boybands, the Backstreet Boys or *NSYNC, on an international level. After releasing five albums (and other compilations and singles), Boyzone disbanded in 2000. Keating and Gately went on with their solo careers and Duffy chased his dreams further with an acting career. The group has often gotten back together for milestone moments for their fans. In 2009 they embarked on the Back Again...No Matter What tour. This, unfortunately, was the last time all the original Boyzone members would perform together before the tragic death of Stephen Gately on October 10, 2009. Boyzone went on to produce more music as a quartet and in 2013 went on tour to celebrate their 20th anniversary and release new singles. The 2018 tour and album will be the last for the group and have promised to make them the best ones yet.
